Geographical Location of Gumel
Gumel is located 120 km northeast of Kano and lies about 20 km south of Nigeria's northern border with Niger. As of 2007 the estimated population of Gumel was 44,158. Gumel, also spelled Gummel, is a town and traditional emirate in northern Jigawa state, northern Nigeria. The emirate was founded about 1750 by Dan Juma of Kano city (75 miles [121 km] southwest) and his followers of the Manga (Mangawa) tribe. Shortly after his death in 1754, it became a tributary state of the Bornu kingdom.

The Jigawa State College of Education Gumel wishes to inform all its newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session that there will be a general screening exercise scheduled to begin on Monday, September 22, 2025. The exercise will be conducted at the main campus site along Kano Road by 10:00a.m. daily. The screening exercise is mandatory. Therefore, all admitted candidates are kindly requested to attend.
